The four major political parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes based parties—who reached at the Prime Minister Official Residence- failed to kick of formal meeting. Only NC-UML and UCPN (M)-Madhesi parties held a bilateral talks separately.
CA Chair Nembang had called the meeting of Business Advisory Committee on January 1 and urged the major parties to either forge consensus by Monday (today) or to give him the authority to bring a preliminary draft of constitution.
Sadvawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato said that the four-party meeting has been reconvened for Tuesday. “We had brought a proposal on behalf of the UCPN (M)-led alliance,” he told media,” But as they [NC and UMl] are yet to discuss our proposal, the formal meeting could not convene today.”
The UCPN (M)-led 30-party alliance had tabled a 9-point joint proposal regarding the key contentious issues of constitution drafting in the meeting reports ekantipur online.
UCPN (M) leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that they have informed the ruling parties about their joint proposal. “We told them that we have brought this proposal by showing utmost flexibility and we expect the same from them,” he told the reporters.
