Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Takehiko Nakao called on Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Monday. Nakao is in Nepal for a three-day visit. He arrived today.
Nakao is in Nepal for a three-day visit on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of ADB Nepal Resident Mission (NRM).
PM's press coordinator Prakash Adhikari said Koirala told the ADB Chief that democracy is essential for development.
Nepal is preparing a democratic constitution that institutionalises federalism, republicanism and inclusion among other achievements of various struggles, Koirala said.
The Prime Minister expressed his hope that ADB will provide support to development of hydropower in Nepal.
Koirala also appreciated ADB's support for airport runway and road construction, urban development, drinking water, education, agriculture and energy sectors in Nepal, according to Adhikari.
In response, the ADB Chief assured to expand scope of support to Nepal, added Adhikari.
