CNI Holds Interaction on Forthcoming Budget

Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) organized an interaction of Budget for Fiscal Year 2072/73 with National Planning Commission.

Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) organized an interaction of Budget for Fiscal Year 2072/73 with National Planning Commission.

According to a press release issued by CNI, vice chairman of National Planning Commission Professor Dr. Govinda Raj Pokharel, NPC member Dr. Swarnim Wagle was present in the interaction.

President of CNI Narendra Kumar Basnyat stressed the need to formulate the forthcoming budget as industry friendly. President Basnyat also said that the coming budget needs to promote Public Private Partnership in real sense. “The government has talked too much on PPP but the government is yet to serious to implement it,” said president Basnyat.

“CNI is ready to cooperate with the government to achieve the high growth in the country,” said president Basnyat. “Our development approach follows the social development till now. The time has come now to focus more on infrastructure development and employment based economic development, “said Basnyat. Nepal cannot achieve progress without partnership between government and private sector.”

Addressing the program vice chairman of National Planning Commission Dr. Govinda Raj Pokharel said that the time has come now to switch from social sector to infrastructure development. “Due to INGOs Nepal has lost its capability to take risk in development sector,” said Pokharel.

“The time to invest in social sector is over. Now the time has come to promote private sector in employment generating and infrastructures,” said Dr. Pokharel. “Nepal will have 1000 MW surplus of energy by 2017.Thus, we must prepare the plan to utilize it.” Said Dr. Pokharel.

Senior vice president of CNI Hari Bhakta Sharma urged the government to bring the budget to accommodate the private sector in development activities.
