Home Secretary Surya Prasad Silwal and Korean ambassador to Nepal Choe Yong-jin signed and exchanged the agreement to hand over 27 heavy equipment from the government of Republic of Korea to the Government of Nepal.
After signing the agreement, Korean ambassador to Nepal Choe Yong-jin also handed over those heavy equipments to secretary Silwal at Nepal Police Club.
Addressing the program, Ambassador Choe Yong-jin said these equipment will be helpful in reconstruction phase to clear debris.
Home secretary Silwal said these equipment will significantly contribute to facilitate the reconstruction process. "These equipments will fulfill basic requirement of Nepalese government in search and rescue operation," said Silwal.
According to a press release issued by Embassy of Republic of Korea, as an immediate relief for humanitarian assistance after the disastrous earthquake of April 25, the Korean Government provided grant aid worth 1.5 million dollars by dispatching a search & rescue team and a medical team to Nepal and by donating relief items in kind and in cash through UNOCHA and IFRC.
Moreover, in order to join hands with Nepal for her reconstruction efforts towards “Resilient Nepal”, the Korean Government on May 20 decided to provide additional 10 million dollars aid assistance. Under this aid assistance, twenty-four heavy equipments will be provided to the Government of Nepal through Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), for initial recovery phase to remove and clean debris in earthquake affected zones.

In addition, Doosan Infracore, a Korea based fifth largest construction equipment manufacturer in the world with 115 years legacy in the field, has also contributed three equipments DX225LCB, Hydraulic Excavator -1, Bobcat E32, Compact Mini Excavator -1 and Bobcat S450, Skid Steer Loader -1 to the Government of Nepal.

Furthermore, to address the mid-to long-term needs of Nepal, the Korean Government will help reconstruct health sector in Nuwakot district through Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Approximately 8 million USD will be utilized for the health sector, for reconstructing concrete District Hospital along with several pre-fab Health Posts with provision of necessary medical equipment including capacity development programs.

The Korean government will continue to explore ways to join the international community’s efforts to support Nepal’s reconstruction," said Ambassador Choe Yong-jin.
