Members of Disability Working Group of Association of International NGOs in Nepal, were together to celebrate International Toilet Day. The Assistant Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development was the chief guest of the event.
AIN Disability Working Group's effort in promoting Inclusive & universally accessible public toilet for all in collaboration with NFDN, Karuna Foundation, CBM, WaterAid & SWC.
The main activity beside awareness raising and solidarity was to announce of the construction of the inclusive Toilet (disability Friendly Toilet) in Bhrikutimandap, central Kathmandu as a model.
“Our prime ambition is to make demonstration for any other public structures that will take be constructed. Bhrikutimandap is one of the big open spaces in central Kathmandu identified as one of the main center for placement of displaced people from disaster,” said Deepak Raj Shapkota country director of Karuna Foundation.So the toilet could be used for that purpose too if nay disaster happens. Furthermore the structure will have a space for a coffee/tea stall as a income generating activities and all the people managing the toilet and tea shop by persons with disabilities.
