Although the visit of COAS General Chhetri to People’s Republic of China has been said to be a regular one, there is a wide discussion on the importance of the visit at a juncture when Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli had just returned from his tour of China where he inked so many agreements.

Nepal Army Spokesperson Brigedier General Tara Bahadur Karki said that this is a regular official visit of COAS General Rajendra Chhetri. “COAS General Chhetri is visiting People’s Republic of China on the invitation of People’s Liberation Army and upon approval of Nepal Government,” said Brigadier General Karki.

With the visit of COAS General Chhetri to India, the atmosphere for Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli's visit was reportedly created and Nepal-India relations started to normalize.

At a time when many hues and shades of political differences persist, Nepal Army has remained the only organized force to defend the country. Nepal Army is the only force which can guarantee what both the neighbors have been pleading for in Nepal: peace and stability.

Given the strength and legitimacy of Nepal Army, the visit of COAS General Chhetri to China is significant. During his visit to China, COAS General Chhetri has also held high level meetings with the Chinese Military leadership as well as other top Chinese officials.
