Peter Malnak takes charge of USAID’s Nepal director

Peter Malnak was announced as the USAID Mission Director for Nepal in September 2015.  Prior to this, he served as USAID Mission Director for Rwanda since 2012.  During his four year tenure in Kigali, he led the redevelopment of USAID strategies and programs to reduce chronic malnutrition, decrease rural poverty, expand high quality basic education, and improve governance. 

According to USAID website, while in Rwanda, Malnak served as Charge d’Affaires and Acting Deputy Chief of Mission at various times.  Prior to this, Malnak held the position of Middle East Affairs Office Director in Washington, DC during the 2011 Arab Spring.  In this role, he engaged extensively on inter-agency coordination for twelve affected countries.  Between 2008 and 2010 he served as the USAID Principal Officer in Juba, South Sudan, where he managed a team of 120 staff to implement a $350 million humanitarian assistance and development program in a post conflict setting.

Malnak joined the Foreign Service in 1992, and is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service in the class of Minister Counselor.  He has received multiple USAID honor awards, and is a distinguished graduate of the National Defense University’s National War College.
