Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Rajendra Chhetri and U.S. Secretary of Navy Ray Mabus jointly unveiled Memorial constructed at Bir Samarak (Brave Memorial) at Chhauni.The memorial was dedicated to two Nepalese, six U.S. soldiers and five other Nepaleese who died in a helicopter crash during the rescue operation in eastern Nepal.
COAS General Chhetri said the country always remembers the sacrifice of brave U.S, and Nepali soldiers for the cause of humanity.COAS General Chhetri also thanked American government sending high level rescue and relief mission.
According to Nepal Army press release, Secretary of Navy Ray Mabus arrived today for his three day visit to Nepal and to pay his respect at the unveiling ceremony at Bir Samark Chhauni.
U.S. Ambassador Alaina Teplitz and Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus paid their respects at the unveiling of a memorial to remember the thirteen individuals on board the UH-1Y helicopter that crashed during a rescue mission one year ago.
“As we commemorate their sacrifice, we also remember the thousands who perished in the earthquakes of April 25 and May 12,” reported in U.S. Embassy Face Book page.
“We are both reminded by and able to take inspiration from the loss of the six American crew, two Nepal Army members, and five civilians to continue our Disaster Risk Reduction work,” said ambassador Teplitz.
