Senior joint secretary Gopi Nath Mainali was promoted as a secretary of Nepal Government. Cabinet meeting promoted him as a secretary on the basis of seniority. Mainali is third in the family to be promoted as a secretary of Nepal government.

His two brothers Shyam Prasad Mainali and Umesh Mainali, who is now chairman of Public Service Commission, already served as a secretary of Nepal government.

Born in Kanpur village of Kavrepalanchwok, Mainali brothers have a good reputation as reformers in civil service.
