Embassy of Myanmar Hosted A Reception

Ambassador of Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Nepal U Lwin Oo hosted a reception to celebrate 69th anniversary of Independence Day of the Republic of Myanmar 4, January at Kathmandu.

Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun was the chief of guest of the program. Speaker of Legislature Parliament Onsari Gharti Magar, Judges of Supreme Court, Nepal Army’s Chief of Army Staff, senior government officials and Kathmandu based foreign diplomats and others.

Addressing the reception, ambassador U Lwin Oo thanks the entire guest attending the 69th Anniversary of Independence Day of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

“Myanmar lived in successive kingdom of magnificence for millennia. The country lost its sovereignty under British rule since 1885 and got independence on 4th of January in 1948 with efforts of whose sacrificed their lives in getting freedom for Myanmar,” said ambassador U Lwin Oo in his statement.

“Nepal and Myanmar diplomatic relations was established in 1960 but people to people relation formed since 150 years ago. Moreover Lord Buddha, noble son of Nepal visited to Myanmar 5 times as pilgrimage tours last 2600 years ago.

So we can say 26 years of diplomatic relation, 150 years of people relation and 2600 years of religious relation between two countries,” said ambassador Lwin Oo.

“There are about 300000 Nepalese origins residing & enjoying in Myanmar and approximately 100000 Myanmar relative Nepalese stay in Nepal. So We have enjoyed good and friendly relations by Government to Government but also people to people relations based on mutual understanding, trust and cooperation. Furthermore, I do believe that our relations will be further enhanced through increased contacts in the Non- Aligned Movement and regional forums such as BIMSTEC, ACD (Asia Cooperation Dialogue) and SAARC,” said ambassador Oo.
