Chaudhary Foundation has handed over 166 transitional shelter homes under its CG Ashraya project to earthquake-affected communities in Kumpur Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhading district.

At a formal handover ceremony organized in Kumpur VDC, Executive Director of Chaudhary Foundation Rahul Chaudhary handed out the plaques of the homes to the affected communities. The homes were built in wards 1 and 4 of the VDC.

The Foundation, committed to providing safe abode for earthquake affected communities, had selected Kumpur as one of the most severely affected villages in the 2015 earthquake. As a high priority project, the Foundation completed building the 166 shelters and made them available to the local communities last year despite the adverse conditions following the earthquake.

Executive Director of Chaudhary Foundation Rahul Chaudhary reiterated his commitment of supporting the earthquake affected communities both in the short and long terms. “These transitional shelter homes were built as per our commitment of providing safe housing for immediate use in the aftermath of the earthquake. We are now focused on carrying out projects for long-term support on safe housing, quality education, and economic sustainability of the affected communities.”

“Chaudhary Foundation is willing to join hands with the National Reconstruction Authority on its mission of rebuilding Nepal. We hope that the rebuilding efforts are driven in a way to boost the country’s economic development. Our Foundation wishes to significantly contribute toward that direction,” he said.

As a long-term support to the affected communities, Chaudhary Foundation has introduced ‘CG Unnati’ and ‘CG Polytechnic’ projects, the former supporting women’s economic self-reliance and the latter focused on youth skill development. The Foundation is also preparing to introduce projects for permanent housing and community school buildings. 

Speaking at the handover ceremony, local coordinator and social worker Surendra Kumar Magar thanked Chaudhary Foundation for building transitional shelters for the affected communities. Praising the local community for their labor-contribution on the transitional shelter project, he expressed commitment for local participation and ownership on future projects as well.

Kumpur is among the most affected VDCs in the April 2015 earthquake. Economically marginalized, disabled, single women, and senior citizens were prioritized as beneficiaries of the transitional shelter project. Thanking all the concerned stakeholders for their support on the project, Chaudhary Foundation hopes that the support will continue in the future as well.

The Foundation has already completed building over 2500 transitional shelters and made them available to the affected communities in Bhimtar, Badegaun and Jalbire of Singhupalchok; Machchhegaun of Kathmandu; Changunarayan of Bhaktapur; Burungchuli and Lokundole of Lalitpur; Namdu and Negal Nagdaha of Dolakha; Gorkha municipality, Gairung and Taklung of Gorkha; Baseri, Khanikhola and Parigaun of Dhading; Hattitar and Gaikhura of Ramechhap; and Okharpauwa of Nuwakot districts.
