Nepal And Djibouti Establishes Diplomatic Relations

Nepal and Djibouti have established formal bilateral diplomatic relations.

Nepal and Djibouti have established formal bilateral diplomatic relations. Durga Prasad Bhattarai, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, and Mohamed Siad Doualeh, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Djibouti to the United Nations signed an instrument to this effect at a brief ceremony at the Permanent Mission of Nepal in New York.

According to a press release issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ambassadors exchanged views on further expanding the areas of cooperation at bilateral and multilateral forums, and committed to working together in pursuit of peace, development and common prosperity ahead.

The two Ambassadors also jointly informed Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, about the establishment of Nepal-Djibouti bilateral relations today.

The number of countries with which Nepal has established diplomatic relations has now reached 147.

The Republic of Djibouti is a country situated in the Horn of Africa and serves as a transit route for east African Countries. It has population about 850,000. Djibouti joined the United Nations on 20 September 1977.

Both Nepal and Djibouti are members of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77 and they have worked together in the UN platform for common interest of Least Developed Countries.
