Government Announces Official Holiday on Prithvi Jayanti

After almost a decade of debate, Nepal government has announced January 11 or Poush 27 as a Prithvi Jayanti and National Unity Day with government holiday. The first meeting of the government led by Girija Prasad Koirala removed the status of national unity day and holiday in 2006. King Prithvi Narayan Shah the Great lead national unification campaign and unified many principalities to make Nepal in present shape.  

 A cabinet meeting also declared December 25 Christmas as national holiday. The government also announced the December 1 as national holiday. The government has decided to declare public holiday to mark the birth of Muhammad Mustafa Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, the propounder of Islam religion.
