Although he lived in humiliation with a corruption scandal and went for a year in prison, former home minister and leader of Nepali Congress late Khum Bhadur Khadka had made major contributions in Nepali polity.
He returned to Nepal along with B.P. Koirala and Ganeshman Singh in 1975 facing the death penalty. He was sent to prison from the airport. During his career in politics, former home minister Khadka had played many roles.
Former minister Khadka shared a major portfolio under the cabinet headed by former leader and prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala and backed him all the time in his political career.
However, his own leader Koirala betrayed the man when he landed in controversy. Koirala, who was projected as a draconian and most corrupt leader in Nepal’s history of communist leaders, became an icon and gurus of communists after 2006, former home minister Khadka was solely blamed for all misdeeds.
When Koirala died CPN-UML leaders and Maoist leaders termed Koirala as nationalist and dear leader, they failed to speak any such word to equally important leader of Nepali Congress Khadka. This is the unfortunate part of Nepali politics.
Although Khadka frequently changed his stand and did not have capability to analyze the political event, he is one of the very popular leaders among his party cadres.
