For the last seventy years, Nepal has held several elections under different political systems and different constitutions. Yet, what has eluded Nepal is the much-needed political stability and political culture. As Nepal held elections for the national parliament and provincial legislatures, they are likely to bring about intricate spirals of political crisis from provinces to the center. Situated between two major powers, India and China, which have been focusing their attention to intensify their influence globally and regionally, Nepal is essentially facing the same risk of crisis it faced seventy years ago after the first ever elections

Let us also note that by 2030 Chinese economy will swell to 38 trillion dollar from its current level of 19.4 trillion dollar to become the largest economy in the world, while Indian economy (currently 2.4 trillion dollar) will hit 19 trillion dollar to be at number 3.

When PM Deuba is holding the elections, Nepal’s two neighbors are vying to establish supremacy here. This growing competition is likely to generate the new heat. If the elected representatives fail to read the writings on the wall, Nepal’s new experiment, which is very complex, will face the same fate of seventy years ago
