Adaptive Social Protection (ASP) is an emerging approach which integrates social protection with disaster risk management and climate change adaptation. Given Nepal’s vulnerability to multiple hazards and the gaps in the current social protection system, ASP might be the best vehicle by which Nepal can build resilience to shocks. While more research is needed on how ASP can be achieved in differing country contexts, in the long run, this approach has the potential to contribute to human wellbeing by empowering individuals, households, communities and nations, improving quality of life, and transforming people’s lives so they are more resilient in the face of shocks.
