Communication in the country has improved. True, those persons able to make liberal down payments and use hire purchase facilities in Nepal are able to utilise modern day facilities enjoyed elsewhere in the world. Whilst the number of traffic accidents and the number of deaths on the roads have increased tremendously, there is no denying the fact that the mobility of the people has increased by leaps and bounds.

Our Prime Minister would do well by stopping himself and his colleagues from painting a rosy picture of the economy at a time when trade imbalance is on the rise, balance of payment is negative, current account is in deficit, foreign exchange reserve is decreasing and foreign investment has registered a sharp decline. Opposition leaders should also not be too hard on Oli because the mess that the economy is in today cannot be solely blamed on the still- young government led by him

The Tran Quoc Pagoda, one of the country's oldest Buddhists monuments located on a small island near the southeastern shore of West Lake, holds the ashes of important monks and is linked to the mainland by a small causeway. With ever chanting monks and devotees, it was worth a quick visit to enjoy serenity and smell of the fragrance of lit incenses.

Another autocratic and inadmissible decision by the prime minister soon upon coming to office was to grant anew the license to develop Budhi Gandaki to a Chinese company with a questionable past in Nepal that the parliamentary committee had earlier deemed improper. This is a multipurpose water resource development project that produces not just what are private goods such as much-needed seasonal peaking electricity for the national grid but also public goods (irrigation for an area stretching from east Chitwan to Nawalparasi, flood control, fisheries, navigation, satellite city development and tourism).

A speedboat tour from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta through the Saigon River, including its canals, with a dozen tourists, was both educational and interesting. It was a nice way to observe settlements, life and culture while enjoying a water ride without traffic jams or being cramped in a vehicle. A light breakfast was served soon after boarding the speedboat around 8.30 am with bottled cold water and cut tropical fruits in perpetual supply. A constant two-way flow of people and goods in small and big boats kept one’s attention on the daily dynamics of life around the mighty river.

The commercial banks in Nepal had announced that they would be willing to pay up to 13% on fixed deposits. The spread i.e. the difference they charge for loans and the interest that they give for deposits should not large. The reality is that all banks are run by humans and have also failed in different parts of the world.

They likened the norms defining their appearances to a rigid body binding shaper that molds measurements to appease to the eye. To modify the body to become beautiful, as decorated by make-up and corsets, is torturously suffocating and extremely difficult to breathe.

Despite various efforts of government and non-governmental organizations chhaupadi remains a vital issue leading to mental and physical abuse and life threatening risk due to rape and snake bites. As per law anyone who forces women and girls to practice chhaupadi will be liable to three-month sentenced prison with a fine of NPR 3000/- ($30). But many death cases goes unreported and barely any actions are taken on those who compel women to stay in shed.

On current targets, the world is set for 3 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by 2100, which scientists say would be disastrous, resulting in mass migration and displacement caused by drought, floods, sea level rises, heat and cold waves, hunger, disease and conflict.

Gender equality in the family reduces divorce and depression, making them happier and improving the living standard of the individual. It is crucial that men stay as part of the feminist action. For feminism to achieve the goal of women's liberation, men must participate in the struggle. Indeed, men bear greater responsibility for ending the oppression of women because they are the patriarchs of the main perpetrators of that oppression. But can men do so to become feminists?

A nation is a stable community of people, formed on the basis of a common language, territory, economic life, ethnicity, or psychological make-up manifested in a common culture. ... It is a cultural-political community that has become conscious of its autonomy, unity, and particular interests.

Every good governance initiative it took was stymied by vested interests that control his party, its satraps and the government from the outside. The much-needed crackdowns on transport cartels (called “syndicates”) as well as the organized smuggling of gold at Tribhuban International Airport were called off as was the attempt to clean up the NGO sector of its “business by other means” activities by introducing a code-of-conduct.

The reality is that we Nepalis are the underdogs who have been suffering down the ages. The bare mountains that comprise a major part of our country are not conducive to support all of us. We Nepalis have been a nation of migrants – the Lahures and Bahadurs. Now it is mostly Kanchas who are being exploited. A lot of the Nepalis lost their lives fighting against the British from the time of Maharaja Ranjit Singh till 1816 and the Treaty of Sugauli.
